

On July 2, 2017, John Reinhard Taylor of The Woodlands, Texas, died at the age of 91. John was born on December 21, 1925, in Glendive, Montana, to George Reuben Taylor and Mildred Reinhard Taylor. John graduated from Dawson County High School in Glendive and then enlisted in the Navy during WWII. He was in training as a navy pilot when the war ended and was honorably discharged in 1946. While on the GI Bill, he attended the University of Minnesota, then transferred to Tulsa University where he was able to complete his undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering and MBA. There he met Carolyn Herbert of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He married Carolyn in 1951 and soon after joined Atlantic Refining Company where he worked for over 20 years while living in Louisiana, Texas and then Kansas. His last employer, Ferrell North America, brought John and his family to The Woodlands where he retired. John and Carolyn celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in January. John grew up in a railroad community and continued his interest in trains through his hobby in model railroading. He was a master gardener and enjoyed many hours working on various gardening projects. He also kept busy by framing and shipping Carolyn's artwork to her customers. John and Carolyn enjoyed traveling extensively in retirement and family camping trips in the national parks while raising their children. John is survived by three children, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and her husband, Dr. Patrick M. Palmer of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Cynthia Trumbo, and son John David Taylor, both of The Woodlands, Texas. John was an extremely proud grandfather to Jennifer Lynn Trumbo and Patrick Michael Palmer II. John's parents predeceased him but he leaves his younger brother George Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona, and wife, Maureen. John led a quiet life of honor and integrity and was a devoted family man. He was held in high esteem by those in the petroleum industry as well as by his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. A private graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
