John Travis Watson

John Travis Watson, a beloved father, grandfather and friend, age 88, passed peacefully on October 18, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on August 25, 1935 in Augusta, Georgia. He was married to Hannah Patricia Roper from 12-23-1957 until her death in March 2001 (43 years). They both loved to travel and did so extensively throughout the US and Europe. He later married Dorothy May Lassiter on 2-14-04 until her death in May 2023. He retired as a SMSGT from the US Air Force in 1987 after 30 years of honorable service including two tours during the war in Vietnam. He received numerous medals and commendations. He was an active volunteer and Lay Reader at the base Chapels and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed softball, bowling, and woodworking.

He is survived by his daughters, Caroline Kahahawai and husband, Charles.Their children, Travis Kahahawai, Kaiona Enderson and husband Ryan along with great granddaughters Maleah, Makiah and Kamdyn . Catherine Trapp and husband, Scott. Their children, John Trapp, Jordan Trapp and her fiancé Nira O’Connor. Dorothy’s children, Steve Lassiter and wife Susan, and Tammera Claybrook; 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Watson and brothers-in-law, Truman Foy, Pat Foy, and Britt Foy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26th from 5-7 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 27th at 11 am at Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene, Texas with Air Force Honors.
