He passed away peacefully in his home in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his
family on September 27, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife, Ana Maria
Acevedo de Navedo and his children, Jose A. Navedo, Jr., Virgie Stearns, Anita
Mullen, Luis A. Navedo and Cyndi Navedo.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dionisio Navedo, Maria Crespo and his
son, Jose A. Navedo III.
As a young man, Jose was an accomplished self taught mechanic, a dancer
extraordinaire and an athlete who played minor league baseball for the Clippers in
Puerto Rico. He met and married Ana Maria Acevedo on March 20, 1954. Jose
and his wife Ana had 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren together.
Jose joined the United States Army in 1952 and was a veteran of both the Korean
War and Vietnam. He earned the rank of Sergeant Major in the United States
Army and retired after 32 years of faithful service. He was awarded the Legion of
Merit for his impeccable service.
After his retirement in 1983, he worked at Fairchild Aviation, in San Antonio until
1987. He returned to a life of service to the country that he loved, as a Defense
Contractor in locations like Saudi Arabia, Rwanda, and Somalia. A stalwart patriot,
Jose served the military for many more years working at the Veterans for Foreign
Wars Post 8541 in San Antonio, TX. Jose also held one of the highest and most
prestigious degree within the Knights of Columbus - the Fourth Degree. They are
a group of outstanding “Sir Knights” who are dedicated to the service of their
church, their country and the order. He also enjoyed volunteering at his
grandsons elementary school where he was recognized by the NE Independent
school district with the Superintendent's Award.
Lastly, a devoted and loving family man, Jose returned to Puerto Rico with his wife
Ana to care for her ailing mother until her death in September 2000. He was
always willing to help his children, grandchildren and young soldiers through
whatever obstacles they faced…always ready to guide them.
Jose’s devotion to family and love of life will always be remembered. He will be
deeply missed and forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
