Joseph Henry Fischer

He was one of five children and the loving brother who helped raise his brothers and sisters.

After he graduated from high school, Joe went to work for Western Union initiating and delivering telegrams.

Later, he joined the Navy and served during World War II as a telegrapher in Corpus Christi.

Joe married Ellen Joyce Fischer on June 6, 1953 in Corpus Christi at the First Christian Church. Shortly thereafter, they moved to San Antonio.

Once in San Antonio, Joe worked for the Air Force's Civilian Personnel branch. He worked at Brooks during the Aerospace program and at Lackland as it began to emerge as the language school for the Air Force.

After his retirement, Joe became an active member of the San Antonio Sports Association and worked to promote baseball in San Antonio. He became the athletic director for St. Mary's University and worked with others to energize the sports program.

Joe worked with many others to provide assistance to retired Air Force employees as part of the NARFE Retirement Center at Lackland. He was an avid baseball fan and saw many of the greatest players of his time. Joe was an active member of Woodlawn Christian Church and loved the Lord, his church and his friends in Jesus.

Joe and Joyce celebrated their 50th anniversary last June with many friends and his family. He loved visiting with his friends about great memories, the latest sports news and their families.

His children, JoAnn and Bill Clifton, Jerry and Mary Fischer and Marsha Fischer have many, many great memories of our Dad. He taught us to do our best no matter what the task, to be honest and to care about others.

His granddaughter, Gretchen Clifton will always remember the horse back rides and train rides at Brackenridge Park, running errands in the orange pickup and playing catch with her Gramps.

Diana Rivas was his caretaker and he always enjoyed time spent with her exercising, visiting Joyce at The Regent, and running errands.

To my husband, our father and Gramps- thank you, we love you and we'll see you in heaven.
