

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert W. Gray; their two daughters, Susan Gray Deleon (David), and Lauren Gray; Joyce's two sons, David Mart Digby (Sheri), and Darin N. Digby; her grandchildren, Candice Digby, Robert Hardy (Leigh), Elise Digby, Sonny Moore (Jared), Sarah Digby, Will Digby (fiancée Stephanie Brait), William Deleon (fiancée Skylar Nolen), Robert Deleon, and Cristopher Jackson "Jack" Deleon; and her great-granddaughter, Kayd Moore. She is also survived by her four sisters, Dina Montgomery, Judy Avery (John), Linda Jones and Debra Moore, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joyce lived a life of prayer and devotion which she faithfully practiced and lovingly passed on to her children, grandchildren and countless others. She highly valued education and spent most of her professional career as an associate professor in early childhood education at San Antonio College and as director of the college’s Early Childhood Center, which became the first childhood center in San Antonio to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
She was a long time member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, Dripping Springs, Texas, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Joyce shared her abiding love for God and others in all aspects of her life, including as a spiritual director and as a member of the Austin Area Spiritual Directors Community. Joyce and Robert remained active in Cursillo in the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas for many years after making their own in the late 1980’s.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 301 Hays Country Acres Road, Dripping Springs, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to send a memorial contribution to the Episcopal Church Foundation in West Texas or a charity of your choice.
