Joye Hollingsworth

Joye Hollingsworth passed away peacefully at the age of 93. She was born in Houston, Tx to Axel Hugh and Madolyn “Bea” Engstrom. She attended Milby High School in Houston where she enjoyed her days as a twirler.

After High School she worked at the tax office in Houston.

She met the love of her life, Joe Hollingsworth in 1956. Soon after they married and moved to Del Rio with their son, Greg. There the trio flourished and had many dear friends and adventures. One of their adventures was her work with the Rodeo Association alongside her beloved husband and dancing partner. She had a deep love for horses and truly enjoyed her horse, Josan. Horse riding and trail riding was an activity the whole family enjoyed.

Joye worked at the tax office and as a clerk for the River Riders in Del Rio for many years. She was an exquisite party planner in the social scene of Del Rio and socialized regularly.

When Joe passed in 1987, Joye moved to San Antonio and when her son, Greg married Susan in 1992, she suddenly had not only a daughter, but 3 grandchildren to dote on. She loved visiting her family in Pipe Creek and was always thrilled when new family members were added. Over the years the family grew and she had several great grandchildren whom she adored. As her clan grew so did her heart, as she created exceptional bonds with all members of her expanded family. She adored her son and new family and loved them all dearly. No birthday, holiday or special events were missed. To her, the family was her world.

Joye was independent, courageous, stubborn, hard headed, thoughtful and creative. She was vivacious, spunky, fun, sweet, sassy and full of humor to the end. Her infectious laughter will echo in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bobby and her loving husband Joe.

She is survived by her son Greg Hollingworth and daughter in law Susan Hollingsworth, her grandchildren: Derek Valdez (Dana), Christopher Valdez (Kimberley), Sarah Hansen (Phillip), 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
