

Juan T. Mercado, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of 90. He was born on December 27, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Theodoro Mercado and Dolores Dehoyos.
Juan was a man of many passions, each one reflecting his zest for life. He had a love for reading, often immersing himself in books that sparked his curiosity and broadened his perspective. Travel was another one of his great joys, and he explored the world with enthusiasm. Whether it was embarking on luxurious cruises to distant shores or flying in his business jet to new destinations, Juan's spirit of exploration was boundless. He cherished every opportunity to take his family on unforgettable vacations, where they could share moments of joy and create lasting memories together.
His love for adventure was matched only by his generosity. Juan took great pleasure in sharing these experiences with his loved ones, always making sure that his family was part of every adventure. He believed that the greatest gift he could give was the chance to explore the world and create memories that would live on for generations. His adventurous spirit, paired with his deep love for his family, was one of the defining qualities that made him so special
Juan's memory will forever live in the hearts of his sons: Juan T. Mercado Jr. (Teresa), James Arthur Mercado (Mandi), and Francis Michael Mercado; his daughters: Gloria M. Pierce (Guy), Norma de los Santos, Leticia T. Sczepanik (Joe), and Jennifer McKinney (Chris); his siblings: Gloria Morin and Loli Roman; his 12 grandchildren: Jaci Stricklin, Kristopher Barrera (Alita), Robert de los Santos III (Diana), Selina Cuevas (Juan), Elizabeth Cardenas (Max), Timothy Pierce, Victoria Mercado (Justin), Jackson Pierce, CJ McKinney, Sara Sczepanik (Jay), Taylor McKinney; and his 13 great-grandchildren: Kristina Barrera, Eliza Stricklin, Roberto de los Santos IV, William Stricklin, Marc Anthony de los Santos, Kristali Barrera, Gabriel de los Santos, Juan Cuevas Jr., Esmeralda Cuevas, Kristiano Barrera, Emma Cardenas, Max Cardenas IV.
Juan is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 68 years, Norma P. Mercado, his parents Theodoro and Dolores Mercado, his granddaughter Katherine M. Mercado, and his great-grandson Kristian N. Barrera.
Honoring as pallbearers are Kristopher Barrera, Roberto DeLosSantos III, Jeren Vargas, CJ McKinney, Juan Cuevas and Justin Jewell. Honorary pallbearers are Timothy Pierce Max Cardenas and Jackson Pierce, these devoted friends and family will carry his memory forward with love and respect.
The family would like to give special thanks to Doni Lozano for the special care he had given to Juan since his wife had passed away and especially during Juan's brief illness.
The family would also like to give thanks to the Eternal Faith Hospice and their staff for the exceptional care that gave Juan. Special thanks to Maria, Heather, Amy, Abby and Lance.
A Visitation for Juan will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237. On Wednesday, March 19, 2025 our doors will open at 8:30 am, we will then go in procession for a 10:00 am Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78228.
