Juan Jose Rodriguez passed away peacefully at his home on January 3, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, just days before his 75th birthday. He was born on January 12, 1951, in Cadereyta, Mexico, to Juan Rodriguez Gonzalez and Mercedes Rodriguez.
At the young age of five, Juan moved to the United States in 1956. In 1969, he became an official United States citizen and graduated from Lanier High School that same year. He attended San Antonio College beginning in 1969 and later Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting in 1973. In 1986, Juan became a Certified Public Accountant.
In 1979, Juan joined the San Antonio Independent School District, where he dedicated the next 27 years of his career. He retired in 2006 as the Director of Accounting. As if retirement could stop him, Juan continued his professional journey as Director of Accounting at Our Lady of the Lake University from 2006 to 2017, officially retiring in 2017.
Juan was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved gardening and landscaping, taking great pride in working with the earth and creating beauty wherever he could. Known for his kind heart and selfless nature, Juan was always thinking of others, even until the very end. Saying he had a green thumb would be an understatement. He enjoyed being outdoors and believed everyone should have a vegetable garden—though, ironically, he never had much luck growing one himself. He especially loved the sound of wind chimes and rain.
Above all else, Juan was an incredible father, son and brother. He always made sure to take care of those he loved. He adored his daughter, who was the light of his life. He also cherished his beloved grandpups, proudly known to them as “Grandpaw.” His love for his family was constant and unmistakable, defining who he was at his core.
Juan will be remembered for his warmth, his passions, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind lasting memories in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Juan is survived by his daughter, Dina Rodriguez; his brother Jesus J. Rodriguez and wife Elouise, along with their children and grandchildren; his sister Marta Ramirez and husband Robert, along with their daughter, and grandchild; his sister Guadalupe Garcia and her son and his wife; and his brother Rene Rodriguez and wife Eliza, along with their sons and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Mercedes Rodriguez; his brother, Robert (Bobby) Rodriguez; and his nephews, Marco Garcia and JJ Rodriguez.
A memorial service will be provided by Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, located at 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas.
Juan loved the color blue. Please kindly wear any shade of blue to his memorial in his honor.
