San Juana Valadez de Castaneda affectionately known as Juanita, was born on May 16th, 1931 in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas Mexico. She passed away peacefully in Chicago, Illinois on July 17th, 2023 at 92 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Gilberto Castaneda.
She is survived by her 4 children, Lydia Urdiales, Gilbert Castaneda, David Castaneda, and Cecilia Castaneda, along with 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Juanita was the 6th child of 10 siblings in Nuevo Laredo Mexico. Her fondest memories were of playing on the family’s ranch with her loving family. Growing up, she helped her father in the family meat market business, and as a young woman, Juanita sang on the radio during amateur hour and won a number of times. At the age of 20, Juanita married the love of her life, Gilberto, and was whisked away to Chicago where she lived for 48 years. As a homemaker and a nanny, Juanita had a gift for taking care of children with love and logic. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Juanita will be held Sunday, July 23, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211. A funeral service will occur Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Trevino, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78211. A graveside service will occur Monday, July 24, 2023 at 9:30 AM at First Memorial Park Cemetery, 20567 TX 16, Von Ormy, TX 78073.
