

Juanita Stevens Heye Mrs. Dan Heye died peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2007. She was born in Meridian, MS on January 28, 1907 to Howard Anthony Stevens and Anne Charleville Stevens. Juanita, one of five children, grew up in Houston, TX. She received her degree from Rice University in 1931.
In 1933, she married Daniel Gerard Heye of San Antonio to which they soon moved. Her husband became the owner of D. Heye Co. the family saddlery business which had been established in 1866.
Juanita taught in the San Antonio Independent School District for twenty-one years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 45 years, her son Daniel Stevens Heye and all of her siblings except Mae DeLange of New Orleans.
She is survived by her son James D. Heye of Dallas, her daughter Janice Heye Payer and husband Michael C. Payer of San Antonio, six grandchildren: Michael C. Payer, Jr. and wife Diana, Daniel Heye Payer, Catherine Payer and husband Ben Vaughan IV, Andrew Stevens Payer, Keri Heye Ellis and husband Meno, and Christi Lee Heye, six great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
All of her relatives were with her to celebrate her 100th birthday in January.
The family is grateful for the loving and compassionate care Juanita received from the nurses and staff at Incarnate Word Retirement Community Extended Care.
They are especially grateful for the loyal companionship and care of Jan Wosnig and Elvira Fragozo over the last ten years.
