Justin Reid Maxey was born on August 11, 1973, in Ft. Leonard Wood MO and went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2025, in Mahomet, IL. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnny Ray Maxey, and mother, Sue Ann Maxey. He is survived by his wife, Danielle R Maxey. He was Super Dad to Jeremy Reid, Joshua Ray, John Richard and Berkley Kay-Ann, as well as their partners and spouses. Justin was also a proud Grandpa to Xander Jiraiya, Zayd Nash and Aubrey Jo-Elizabeth. He was also a brother to Christina Marple, James Maxey, Dolsie McDonald and Jonathan Maxey as well as their spouses.
From a young age Justin wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps by serving in the United States Army, which he did proudly for 6 years as both Active Duty and Reservist. He worked in multiple MOSs including 91B, Combat Medic, and 91D Operating Room Specialist, he also served as a member of the Honor Guard for Ft. Sam Houston. He received multiple decorations during his service including, the National Defense Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Expert Marksman badge.
Following his time serving his country he continued a life of service by entering the medical field as a surgical technologist. Throughout over three decades in the field Justin found himself working at most of the major hospitals in the San Antonio area and developing skills in multiple specialties including, orthopedics, neurology and cardio-vascular surgery. His passion for surgery led Justin to pursue his certification as a Certified First Assist, allowing him to take a more active role in the surgeries he was assisting in. He spent the final years of his life working in this capacity with Surgikal group in association with the Carle Foundation Hospital in Illinois.
Justin will be remembered by all who met him as a kindhearted, boisterous man with a confident, friendly personality. You couldn’t sit down with him without hearing a story from the plethora that he had from his time in both the military and the operating room. You also couldn’t go anywhere with Justin without bumping into someone who knew him. The saying, “Never met a stranger,” might as well have been coined for him. His life and laughter will live on in the memories of his family, his friends and anyone who spent any time at all with him. He will be sorely missed but those who knew him, knew of his love for the Lord and his relationship with Jesus Christ. So, we know it’s not goodbye. We know those who believe will see him again, and by that time the Lord will be in need of a break.
