

Kathryn B. Wardell was born July 31, 1927 in Groesbeck, Texas. Kathryn died on November 10, 2021 at the age of 94. Kathryn grew up in San Antonio with her family where they had a boarding house on French St. in Monte Vista. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended Trinity University before moving to England with the Guiler family who she met while the family lived in the boarding house while serving in the Air Force. She was their nanny to two young boys where she developed her love of travel. After returning home from abroad, she went to work at Campbell Steel Company where she met the love of her life, Kenneth E. Wardell. Kathryn and Ken married on December 29, 1956 at Jefferson Methodist Church in San Antonio and moved to Lubbock Texas where Ken and her brother, John Bennett, attended Texas Tech University and where their daughter, Sarah Justice, was born in 1958.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Ben Willis; her brothers, Ben Willis, John Bennett, and Gerry Willis; her two infant children, Dina and Kenneth; aunt, Pauline Bennett Ridgeway; cousin, Helen Ann Anderson; brothers in law, Don Butterfield, Vernon Roseberry, and John La Course; and sister in law, Rosemary Roseberry. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah; son in law, Tim Crocker; sisters in law, Vickie Willis and family of Roanoke, Virginia, Mary Beth La Course and family of San Antonio, Texas, Billie Willis and family of Dallas, Texas, Juanita Butterfield and family, niece, Jeri Winter, of California; and the Glenn and Graham Guiler family of Florida.
During a wonderful, fulfilling career as a third grade teacher in Northside Independent School District, Kathryn made many great friends who are still in Sarahs life to this day. Kathryn loved to travel and instilled this love to Sarah, who traveled most recently with her to Europe on a cruise down the Danube River in 2014, celebrating her 89th birthday. It was the mother daughter trip of a lifetime for both of them. Kathryn and Ken were married for 59 years and created the best life with numerous, lifelong, loving friends.
Service will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Meadow United Methodist Church, 2740 Hunters Green, San Antonio, Texas. 78231.
