

Col.(ret.) Kenneth Joseph Smith, age 92, was called home to Heaven on Monday, March 28, 2011 at his home in Fair Oaks Ranch. Kenneth was born on March 12, 1919 in Scranton, PA. At 17, after the death of his father, he devoted himself to the care of his loving mother. Kenneth proudly served our country for 30 years as an Army Aviator in the United States Army. He was married to the love of his life, Vida Mae Graves Smith, for 54 years. He was a devout Catholic with a deep devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist and served as a Fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, an avid golfer, a talented musician (violin, piano, guitar, harmonica) and he adored his Irish homeland.
Kenneth was surrounded by his children at the hour of his death and enjoyed life to the very end. He leaves behind three children, Dr. Kenneth Smith (Jo Smith), Michelle Pitts (Dr. John Pitts), Colleen Passero (fiancé Bastiaan Boll); seven grandchildren, Jason Smith, Dr. BC Smith, Betsy Smith Falk, Talia Pitts Ficocelli, Kelleah Pitts, Kelsey Passero and Jake Passero; and six great grandchildren, Kennedy, Ballard and Grayson Smith, Josie and AJ Falk and Aubrey Passero. And Dill.
Kenneth was a central force in all our lives. He will live in our hearts forever.
A rosary will be recited at 11:30 am on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 with the funeral mass to be celebrated at 12:00 noon at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, 78209. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
