Lanny’s adult life consisted of serving 28 years in the United States Air Force followed by several years in the private business sector. Lanny was most happiest when he was working on a project as idle hands were not in his DNA; he was always one looking for a “home project” to do around the house. He loved all types of physical exercise. He also loved dogs, with his dog, Cooper, lying beside him when he passed peacefully to the Lord.
Strong in his faith in the Lord, Lanny was kind and generous and leaves a legacy of love that will continue to be a beacon of inspiration and light for all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Eleanor Abee, and his sister, Judy Abee, all of Hickory, North Carolina.
Cherishing his memory are his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Melinda Abee of Ellicott City, Maryland, his life companion of 30+ years, Karon Wernli of San Antonio, Texas, his former wife Elizabeth Abee of San Antonio, Texas, his brother Jerry and wife Melissa Abee of High Point, North Carolina, grandchildren Alexa Abee of Ellicott City, Maryland, Ian and wife Kelli Abee of Summerville, South Carolina, nephew Brian Abee of High Point, North Carolina, and Lanny’s dog Cooper whom he loved dearly.
Most of Lanny’s social life centered on his family and his military associates and we will all miss his outlook on the world. The world is a little dimmer with the loss of Lanny. He will be missed beyond words. A funeral will be held in the coming days. All who knew him are welcome to gather and remember this beloved son, father, brother, and friend. Following the San Antonio funeral, Lanny will be interred at Oakwood Cemetery in his hometown of Hickory, North Carolina.
