

An Angel, Laura Mildred Peikert Tipton, has been released from this Earthly Life to Heaven on January 18, 2026. Born on December 15, 1930 to Captain Albert Boyd Peikert, Sr. and Anna Mildred Poole in Brooke Army Hospital. Her father was an army officer so they lived in Fort Sam Houston, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Petersburg, Virgina, San Bernardino, California, Vanouver, Washington, Liberty, Mississippi, Raleigh, North Carolina, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, San Antonio and Lytle, Texas. She enjoyed life with her brother, Albert Boyd Peikert, Jr.
Laura attended Harlandale Junior High, was a 1949 graduate of Harlandale High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and had been selected by the faculty to attend Texas Girls State in Austin. She attended Hardin-Simmons University her Freshman and Sophomore years graduating from Southwest Texas State College where she received Bachelor's and Masters of Education degrees. In 1951 her father retired and bought a fifty-one acre farm between Lytle and LaCoste. In this community Laura began her thirty year teaching career and taught for four years. One year was third grade and second grade for three years. Her parents decided in 1958 to move back to San Antonio. Laura then taught first grade for twenty-six years in the North East Independent School District, twenty-two years at Northwood Elementary and four years at Stahl Elementary. In 1965 she was named Northwood Teacher of the Year.
Laura enjoyed the adventure of travel throughout her life. She enjoyed driving with her friends in 1956 to Acapulco, Mexico. California was a destination in 1958. In the summer of 1965 she voyaged on the Queen Mary to Europe and visited many countries in those 63 days.
It was while she was teaching, she met the love of her life, Robert Clayton Tipton, who was Director of Special Education for North East Independent School District. They meet and married in 1970 and retired 1983. They enjoyed traveling and furnishing their home with antiques all along having a fabulous time with each other. Laura was a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. She enjoyed Bible Studies and many activities in the church.
Husband, parents, and brother preceded her in death.
Burial will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 24 at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alamo Heights United Methodist Church Foundation, 825 E. Basse Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209 for the purpose of college scholarships for teachers and ministers.
