

Laureano Vidaurri, Jr. passed away on September 25, 2014 at the age of 82 years. He died peacefully at home surrounded by love. He was born in Laredo, Texas. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force, retiring as a captain. He embarked on a second career teaching college-level Biology and Anatomy. During this time, he built a family, traveled the world, played semi-pro baseball, and received advanced degrees in anatomy, biology, and botany. He had a lifelong love of knowledge and learning and stressed the importance of education to his children. He made friends wherever he went and loved singing songs of joy.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Vidaurri Shaw; granddaughter Aja Avelina Kidder; father, Laureano Vidaurri; mother, Carolina Martinez Vidaurri; and sisters Julia Irma Vidaurri and Margarita Vidaurri. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Botello Vidaurri; daughters Leticia Vidaurri Strass, Laura Vidaurri Otwell, and Denise Vidaurri Zwiener; grandchildren, Adlai Austin Kidder, Aria Danica deKalands, Angelica Maria Mielke, Aly Giselle Vidaurri-Mielke, Gabrielle Marie Strass, Adrienne Alicia Zwiener, Seth Richard Shaw, and Michael James Zwiener; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
The family wishes to thank elder care and health care professionals especially those at San Antonio Military Medical Center Cardiology, Griswold Elder Care, and the staff with VITAS Hospice. Your caring and kindness has meant so much to our father and to the family.
Visitation will take place from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday October 2, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30pm Friday October 3, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church 3303 Urban Crest with committal to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
