She survived her beloved husband, of more than 70 years, Dominick “Al” Maurice and was called to meet him on May 10, 2021. Lillian met “Al”, at a USO dance in Boston, Massachusetts, when he was on leave from the U.S. Navy during World War II, while his ship, the USS Quincy, was in dry-dock for repairs. They married on December 23, 1945, and at war’s end moved to Fairview, New Jersey where she raised her three children, Alfred of Mahwah, New Jersey, Donna Hoffman of Ludlow, Massachusetts, and Leila Dini of San Antonio, Texas. Lillian was able to see her grandchildren, Mark and Michael Maurice and Daniel and John Dini grow and mature. She was also able to witness the coming of her great grand-daughter, Aemilia Maurice, daughter of Michael and Josephine Maurice.
Through her long life she made wonderful friends and had close family relationships with her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and extended family. In a life that spanned more than 100 years it is significant to note the dramatic changes in America and the world to which she bore witness. She was born at the time of the 20th century pandemic and survived the pandemic of the 21st. She witnessed America’s transition from horse drawn carriages, trollies and trains to the birth of national and international travel by auto and supersonic jets. She witnessed the beginning of the electronic age, the technology explosion and the age of space exploration and placing men on the moon. There were many tragedies and triumphs in the past 101 years; wars, disease, political and international strife and too few moments of bliss. Having survived all of this and nurtured a family into the next century, she indeed had a life well lived.
Lillian will be interred with her husband “Al” at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, July 06, 2021.
