Our dear mother, Lillie D. Bourque, age 82, returned to her Heavenly Father on February 4, 2025. She was born in Tabor City, North Carolina, on May 7, 1942, to the late Lottie Belle Fipps and Jonah Finch Cannon. She later moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where she met and married the love of her life, Ralph Joseph Bourque. They were married for 57 years.
Lillie lived in Germany twice and several U.S. states while Ralph served in the U.S. Army for 22 years. They finally settled in San Antonio, Texas, in 1978. Lillie lived in her humble abode on John Young Street for 43 years. Her favorite places were sitting on the bench on her patio, watching all the goings-on in her backyard, sitting at her dining room table sharing a meal with guests, or eating out at her favorite restaurants.
Lillie was a wonderful mother and devoted wife who loved her family more than anything. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, taking road trips to Louisiana and Colorado, shopping for shoes, watering her very green lawn, replacing her shower curtain and bedding way too often, playing Words with Friends, and feeding anyone who visited her home. Lillie also loved her dear extended family. She could often be found on the phone with nieces and sisters who lived far away.
Many will remember her infectious laugh and beautiful golden locks. She didn’t dare miss her weekly hair appointment with her daughter, Michelle. Her favorite saying was, “It will all come out in the wash.” If you knew her, you were sure to have heard her say it.
Lillie is survived by her three daughters, Sherry (Gary) White of Windsor, Colorado, Brenda (Sergio) Garza of Helotes, Texas, and Michelle Galbreath of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother in Delaware, sisters in Massachusetts and Florida, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
To commemorate and celebrate her life and love for others, a viewing/visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m., with a service following at 6:00 p.m. on February 22, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218
