Lindley Bert “Papa” Clements, son of the late Willie Bert Clements and Jennie Holland Clements, was born February 7, 1925 in Breckenridge, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2018 after 93 life-fulfilling years. “Papa” was married on April 4, 1947 to the love of his life, Helen Wagner “Mimi” Clements, a marriage that lasted until her passing in 2016.
Papa was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in numerous campaigns throughout the Pacific Theater aboard Attack Cargo Ship USS Thuban, AKA-19. Following the war, he married and set out on a 40 year career with National Cash Register Company that took he and his family to Laredo, San Antonio, Austin, Salina, Kansas, and finally to Houston. After retirement, Papa and Mimi settled in San Antonio.
Papa was preceded in death by siblings Clyde, Hazel, Lela, Lawrence, and Payne.
He is survived by his son Robert Clements (Karen) of Yorktown, VA and daughter Linda Clements Hogue (Rocky) of Katy, TX; grandchildren Courtney Hall Freeman (Kelly) of New Braunfels, TX; Craig Hall of Katy, TX; Travis Clements (Sarah) of Gloucester, VA; Meredith Clements Moore (Reggie) of Yorktown, VA; great-grandchildren Addison Freeman, Mason Moore, Allie Moore, Boone Clements, Lindley Clements; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 5-8 PM in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas. Services are Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 8:30 AM in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with Full Military Honors follows at 10:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
