Dr. Lionel Cantú, Jr was a popular UC Santa Cruz Sociology Professor who died unexpectedly, Sunday, May 26, 2002 at the age of 36. He was a passionate friend, teacher and mentor. He made a difference in everyone's life he touched and was a voice for those who did not have one. The family greatly appreciates all his friends in Santa Cruz, especially Dr. Frank Talamantes and Dr. Candice West who were his family in California. He will be greatly missed by everyone around the World. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Crescencio and Estella Cantú; grandfather, Benigno M. Reyes; and sister, Rebecca Cantú. Survivors: parents, Lionel Sr. and Rosario Cantú; sisters, Rose Louise Cantú, and Rachel Diane Cantú; brother, Charles Rene Cantú; grandmother, Herlinda G. Reyes; life partner, Hernando Molinares, Santa Cruz, California; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
