On February 6th of 1930, the Lord blessed the home of Charles Elmer High and Jewel Easterwood High in Marlin, Texas with the birth of their daughter, Lois Lavelle High. For many happy years, the High's raised Lois in and around Marlin, Rosebud and Waco, Texas.
After meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jack P. Smith, Lois spent forty- six years as a devoted wife to a military husband. They made a family together of four children who would often find themselves relocating as Jack received several assignments not only throughout the United States but also overseas. Loving and caring for her four children, Lois also found a calling to work. While diligently working for many years as a property manager in San Antonio, she came to meet many of the people who would become life-long friends. Later in life, Lois would find herself with her much beloved "5th Child," a yorkie named Bridget. While she had many hobbies and enjoyments such as reading, she found the most joy in her dedication to those she held most precious; her children, grandchildren great grandchildren and even eventually great-great grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death in September 1992 by her beloved husband of 46 years, Retired Army Sergeant First Class Jack P. Smith. Sadly, in April 2011, she also mourned the death of her loving daughter Deborah Jean, who left us all too soon.
Lois will be greatly missed but always fondly remembered as she is survived by her daughter Linda Goodson and her husband Stacey who live in Helotes, Texas. She also leaves behind her son Kenneth and his wife Paula Smith in Arlington, Texas and her eldest son, Larry Smith of San Antonio, Texas, who has lovingly cared for Lois at his home for many years.
In her hometown of Waco, Lois is survived by her brother James High and his wife CurticeAnn along with many nieces and nephews. Missing her immensely are those whom she held most precious, her grandchildren: Scott Randall (San Antonio), Liauna Michalec married to John Michalec (Pipe Creek), Brian Smith and wife Heather of Burleson, Texas, her granddaughter Jennifer Smith (Arlington), and in Helotes, Texas her loving grandsons Grant and Garrett Goodson. Finding herself truly blessed, Lois leaves behind thirteen great grandchildren and even two very special great, great-grandchildren.
Visitation and viewing services will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 24th at the Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Lois will be honored and remembered in a Memorial Service and Celebration of her Life to be held 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 25th at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
God looked around the garden
And saw an empty place.
He then looked down from
Heaven and saw
your tired face.
He knew you were suffering
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around
You and whispered
"Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched
As you slowly passed away
And though we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
Many times we've needed you,
And many times we've cried.
If only Love could have saved
You never would have died.
