Lou Emma Denmark Edmondson was born on November 17, 1940 in New Braunfels, Texas to Lillian Marion Denmark and Jesse Velma Denmark. After graduating from high school in New Braunfels, she attended business college and began work as a secretary at Randolph Air Force Base, where she met the love of her life, Frank Phillips Edmondson.
Their lives were blessed with three sons and the many interests and activities that came with raising them. Lou embraced her role as a full-time mother and volunteer, and her passion for education led her to join the staff at Alamo Heights High School, where she spent thirty fulfilling and enjoyable years. She was a longtime member of Shepherd King Lutheran Church.
Lou and Frank enjoyed traveling and camping every summer with their sons throughout the Western United States. In later years, they left the travel trailer behind but continued exploring America’s natural treasures—always making time for their annual trip to Las Vegas.
Their home was always full of life; thanks to the many animals their sons helped them adopt. These included a homeless white mouse rescued from an elementary school, up to four dogs at a time, and the ever-present dachshund or two. (The white-water moccasin from the pond, however, was wisely declined!)
She is survived by her three sons - Robert (Pat) of Portland, OR; Tom of Mechanicsburg, PA; Jesse (Lena) of San Antonio, TX. Her grandchildren include Mina Edmondson of Mechanicsburg, PA; Pressley Chesser and Shaun Chesser of Summerville, SC; and great-grandson Corry Chesser. She is also survived by four additional great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Elwood Preiss of Arlington, Texas, and sisters-in-law Betty Adkins of Georgetown, Texas and Emogene Adams of Arlington, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, her parents Lillian and Jesse Velma Denmark, her brother Velma Jesse Denmark, and her sisters Janice Preiss and Jeanelda Darling (Jack Darling). Once Jesse married Lena and brought her into the family, she became another sister and was the most loving caregiver in Lou’s final years
Funeral services will be held at Fort Sam Houston at 9:30 AM on August 29, where Lou will be laid to rest beside her beloved Frank.
Lou will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to family and every life she touched.
