

Lucia Barrera Flores, age 86, went home to our Heavenly Father on July 13, 2017. Lucia was born in Del Rio, TX on July 6, 1931 to Felix Barrera and Eloisa De Leon Barrera. Lucia was the remaining survivor of 7 siblings.
Lucia was preceded in death by her husband, Higinio G. Flores, and her youngest son, Harold B. Flores.
Lucia is survived by 4 children, Higinio B. Flores (Lisa) of South Carolina, Heriberto B. Flores (Rosemary) of Montana, Sandra F. Vara (Richard) of Austin, and Herman B. Flores of San Antonio. Lucia has 15 grandchildren; Josh, Loretta, Dawn, Brad, Dana, Gabriel, Misty, Crystal, Michelle, Richard, Jason, Brittany, Amber, Jessica and Gregory, over 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lucia graduated from San Felipe High School in Del Rio, TX, and then attended Durham Business College in San Antonio. Lucia obtained her real estate license and worked in real estate for several years. Lucia attended detective school in Dallas, TX and obtained her PI License. She also obtained her boating license through the US Coast Guard, and was the captain of her crew at home. Lucia retired from the San Antonio Light News Paper and continued to work in retail until the age of 76. Lucia loved to play cards and dominoes, and loved to sew, cook, and bake. Her claim to fame was her homemade flour and corn tortillas. Neighborhood kids flocked to get just one of her tortillas when the aroma filled the neighborhood. Lucia was also an accomplished seamstress and spent countless hours sewing dresses, hippy pants, and shirts for her 5 children.
Although, Lucia and her yearly Christmas tamales will be dearly missed, the family takes comfort knowing she is in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
