Lucy Barba Peralez, age 99, passed away peacefully July 12, 2020. She was born November 2, 1920 in DeKalb, Texas to Jacob and Maria Barba. She married her longtime friend and love, Jesse Peralez, in October of 1938 who preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by her four children: Hector Peralez, Ida Peralez Garcia (Neftali) Josie Peralez Hale, Sidney T. Peralez (Sandra): 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucy was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Grandma Lucy.” She had a quiet personality and easily made friends. Lucy was a skilled seamstress and story teller. She especially enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood, the hardships of the times and growing up with 11 brothers and sisters. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons and daughters strong values that have served them well. In addition, Lucy was witness to over nine decades of American history and she faithfully exercised her inalienable right to vote.
Lucy lived a full life as a wonderful mother and homemaker. She will never be far from us. She is in our hearts and minds.
The family would like to thank the staff of Carol Ann's Assistant Living for the love and care they showed Lucy during her stay.
We regret that this loss for us has come at such a terrible time so that even our cultural symbols of proper closure are necessarily thwarted.
A visitation for Lucy, with limited seating, will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 7pm-9pm at Sunset Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
