Our beloved Papa Manny entered into rest with the Lord on August 1, 2018. Manny served his country admirably in the Army’s 7th Infantry Division near the end of World War II, earning a Purple Heart as a result of being wounded, a Bronze Star for meritorious service, and other commendations. After recovering from his wounds, he returned to the theater to help oversee the Japanese government’s transition of power to the Allied Forces in Korea. He was a steadfast patriot and we are grateful for his service to our country.
After the war and his subsequent discharge from the Army, he ultimately returned to San Antonio where he embarked on a 38-year career as a civilian radar and electronics technician in the special weapons division at Kelly Air Force Base.
Throughout his 92 years, Manny was a renaissance man, a jack-of-all-trades. He dabbled in all kinds of projects and prided himself on his ability to learn new concepts and apply them expertly. He loved technology and was enamored with computing and his iPhone. His love for music was second-to-none—all genres were appreciated but his absolute favorite was big band/swing. He loved artists from the first half of the 20th century like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and especially Louis Armstrong. Manny’s collection of tapes and CD’s is extensive, further showing how much he enjoyed music.
Although there are many words that could describe this wonderful man, the most appropriate is KIND. Manny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Not only did he love his family, he loved all of his neighbors in the way Christ called him to do. Kindness and respect of all those he encountered was of utmost importance to him; it is the best example of a life well-lived and a strong legacy he has passed on to the next generations of his family. He will be sincerely missed.
Manny is survived by his wife Polly (73 years), daughters Alicia Webb (Don), Linda Jones, and Norma Villa (Juan), grandchildren Jo-Stephanie Francisco (John), Jessica Chedester, Roy Jones (Sylvia), Debra Bettini (Terry), Eugene Jones (Stacy), Elaine Cordero, Andrea Medaglia (Tony), Kelly Rodriguez (Jonathan), and Amanda Rodriguez, and great-grandchildren Tiger, Lexi, and Alana Francisco, Diego Rivera, Mira and Aaron Medaglia, Diego Cordero, and many other friends and family members. Visitation will be held Monday August 13, 2018 at Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home Located at 226 Cupples Rd. at 5:00 pm with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Henry Catholic Church on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at 9:30 am followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
