Marbel was born to William Ward and Pearl Johnson Harris in George West, Texas on May 12, 1928. She grew up in Live Oak County where her family farmed and ranched. Marbel is preceded in death by her mother and father, her beloved husband of 52 years Ray E. Lindsey, and siblings Lendsy Harris, Gwendoline Branstetter, Ecil Harris, Edgle Harris and Edwin Harris. She is survived by her children, Randal (Kim) Lindsey, Rickey (JC) Lindsey and Resha Randolph. Grandchildren Donovan Lindsey, Laila (Danny) Mayo, Stacey (Russell) Baldwin, Daniel (Kristy) Lindsey, Joel Lindsey, Samantha Lindsey, and Kemberly Lindsey. Great Grandchildren Kameron, Damon and Devin, Reid and Chloe, Ciarra and Kaylee, Rickey, Anthony, and Joshua. Great Great Grandchild Easton, siblings Bernadene Heyn, Yvonne Morin and Weldon Harris, and long-time friend whom she considered as a third son, Gary Gressett.
Marbel retired from Ford Aerospace, where she worked on the Gemini, Apollo and Apollo-Soyus space programs. She had many passions and hobbies and was talented at anything she set her mind to. Her love of art started at an early age, and after self-training she excelled in oil painting over the years. She created many stunning pieces of artwork, and painting Texas bluebonnet landscapes were her pride and joy. While she was stationed in Japan with her husband Ray in the early 1960s, she took up the Japanese art of floral arranging and hat making. She also spent many hours over the years behind a sewing machine, as she loved to sew and make quilts. She ensured each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family received a quilt handmade with love. She was famous for her rum cakes, homemade salsa, jellies, jams, and cowboy candy.
Affectionately known as “Meemaw,” she loved spending time at her home in Llano, TX where she enjoyed gardening and bird watching from her front porch. She especially loved it when her grandchildren and great grandchildren would spend summers with her there. She hosted a July 4th reunion each year where her family and friends would gather, and it was not uncommon to see her zooming around on her four-wheeler (even in her late 80s).
A graveside service is scheduled for June 27, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.; located at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (Shelter #1), 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donating to a charity of your choice.
