

Margaret (Peggy) Genevieve Edwards Baetz passed away peacefully on January 14, 2017. A lifelong resident of San Antonio, she was born November 6, 1919, the only child of Albert Burton Leddiard Edwards and Alta Verna Baughman Edwards.
Mrs. Baetz was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, having been baptized, confirmed and married there to Bertrand Oliver Baetz on November 29, 1939. They were married for 42 years until his death in 1981. Peggy was a member of St. Margaret's Guild and served at the St. Mark's Lenten Luncheons for many years.
During World War II, while her husband was serving in the Army, she volunteered as a nurse's aide.
While never obtaining a college degree, she had an abiding intellectual curiosity and was a perennial student. Peggy was proficient in Spanish and French. Her love of art took multiple forms, including, enrolling in various art classes, becoming a skilled oil painter and serving as a docent of and supporting the McNay Art Museum for many years. An enthusiastic traveler, she visited all the continents, most of them more than once.
She was a member of the Conservation Society and the Good Earth Garden Club for many years. Peggy was a superb cook, health conscious before her time and an avid reader on all subjects.
Foremost, Peggy will be remembered by her family and friends for her loving support to us all and for being the stellar mother, wife and friend that she was. She was a role model to all with her signature kindness, graciousness and generosity.
Mrs. Baetz is survived by her three children, Courtney Baetz Watson and husband, Mark, Bertrand (Randy) Oliver Baetz, Jr. and wife, Beth, and Barbara Shelby Baetz Shipper; seven grandchildren, Shelby Newton, Clary Newton Auler and husband, Mark, Annamarie Baetz Falvo and husband Mark, the Rev. Bertrand Oliver Baetz III and wife, Sarah, Courtney Margaret Shipper, Dr. Edward Stanley Shipper III, and Jacqueline Blair Shipper; and seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Mary Margaret and Shelby Auler, Victor and Betty Falvo, and Eloise and Oliver Baetz.
The family would like to thank, Maria Luisa Galvan, Lupita Cerda, Dora Maldonado, Ana Isabel Coria de Rios and Vicente Orozco for their untiring and loving care of Mrs. Baetz. Also much gratitude is extended to the excellent and caring staff at Incarnate Word Village.
A private burial service will be officiated by the Rev. Bert Baetz.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 315 E. Pecan at 2:00 p.m.. Officiating will be the Rev. Beth Knowlton. A reception following the service will be held in Gosnell Hall.
