OBITUARY

Margaret Lynn Irwin

10 January, 1962 – 22 December, 2025
IN THE CARE OF

Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Margaret Lynn Irwin, known to everyone who loved her as ‘Meg,’ passed away on December 22, 2025, at the age of sixty-three in Luling, Texas.

Born on January 10, 1962, in Port Arthur, Texas, Meg was the cherished daughter of Marjory and Charles Irwin. She grew up in Groves, Texas, where she developed the warm, welcoming, and competitive spirit that would define her throughout her life.

Meg graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1984, an achievement she carried with extraordinary pride as a lifelong Longhorn. Her passion for learning continued long after as she earned a master’s degree in American history from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 1992 and later received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio in 1999.

For more than 20 years, Meg dedicated herself to teaching History and Government in various schools across San Antonio. She had a special gift for bringing the past to life, sparking curiosity, thoughtful, and lively discussion in her students, many of whom remained connected to her long after graduation.

Meg believed strongly in higher education, continuous learning and self-improvement, and, as such, was among a select group of educators chosen to participate in professional enrichment programs, including studies at the United States Supreme Court and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library; extended coursework on the Civil War at the University of Virginia; and advanced studies in American history in Philadelphia.

Meg never married and had no children, but her home and heart were always open. She was a loving host who truly delighted in entertaining—whether it was preparing one of her famous home-cooked meals, cheering on the Texas Longhorns during football season, following baseball, or simply gathering friends and family for laughter and lively conversation. In her spare time, she also enjoyed shopping, diving deep into U.S. history, and cherishing every moment spent with the people she held dear.

Those who knew her will forever remember Meg as a generous, intelligent, and deeply caring woman with a quick wit, a warm smile, a robust laugh, and an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued.

Meg was preceded in death by her beloved father, Charles Irwin of Port Neches, Texas.

She is survived by:

- Her devoted mother, Marjory Irwin of Port Neches, Texas

- Her sister, Beth Puterbaugh of Plano, Texas

- Her nieces, Hollie Puterbaugh of Frisco, Texas; Kellie Puterbaugh of Austin, Texas; and Melanie Puterbaugh of Frisco, Texas

- Her aunt, Phyllis Lehmberg of Santa Fe, New Mexico

- Her cousin, Derek Lehmberg of Fargo, North Dakota

- Her cousin, John Williford of Bartlesville, Oklahoma

Meg's love of history, her passion for education, and her joyful way of bringing people together will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Meg will be buried alongside her beloved father Charles at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park in San Antonio, Texas following a graveside service attended by close family and friends.

May she rest in peace.
