Our beloved Margarita Talavera took her last breath at the age of 76 in a room full of love, surrounded by her daughters and the people she loved most, after fighting a long and tenacious battle with Alzheimers disease.
Margarita, also lovingly known as "Garo", was a proud Boricua. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to her parents Margarita Molina and Roberto Sebastian Talavera, who preceded her in death. Growing up as a strong Puerto Rican woman raised in The Bronx of New York City, Margarita was a force to be reckoned with. She had a brilliant, intuitive mind, a generous and loving heart with passion stronger than the force of hurricane winds.
Margarita was an artistic genius. She was a fashionista well ahead of her time, creating clothing designs in the 1970s that are popular in fashion today. She also wrote beautiful poetry, short stories, and created innovative board games her two youngest daughters loved to play. Her vast creativity even flowed into the clothing she wore and her sensual yet graceful movements on the dance floor. Oozing with confidence and self-assurance, Margaritas fun-loving and exuberant personality attracted people to her like a magnet. She knew NO stranger, thriving on talking to anyone and everyone she passed. Her humor, however inappropriate it may have been, ALWAYS brought laughter to those around her.
Known for having "the mano" - the natural ability to cook delicious Puerto Rican dishes, everyone eagerly looked forward to a meal prepared by her. Margarita was feisty and extremely competitive, taking delight in beating her opponents in games like Dominoes, Scrabble, Phase 10 and Rumikubeven if those opponents were her own grandchildren. She emphatically believed in the power of Vicks Vapo Rub to heal all ailments. even (and especially) those of the non-respiratory system variety. Above all, Margarita was a proud and devoted GRANDma (as she would always emphasize), doting on all her grand and great grandchildren with such incredible joy.
Those who were fortunate enough to witness Margaritas love for God, formidable independence and unwavering determination to live life on HER terms at ANY cost, inherited a roadmap on how to live life to the fullest. She is survived by her brother, Francisco Sebastian Talavera; her four beautiful daughters, Maritza Miranda, Carmen Hefner, Maggie Woolfork, and Millie Guerrero; her grandchildren, Tony Woods, Jr., Taray Woods, Gian Carlo Ornelas, Analisa Brown, Ayana Brown, Jayden Brown, Darieon Woolfork, Deveon Guerrero, Johnnyray Guerrero, Gunner Guerrero, and her sweet Seven Blessings Guerrero; her great-grandchildren River Luca Lennon and Jordan Brown; as well as the son & daughter in laws she was absolutely crazy about - Cindy Hefner, Larry Guerrero and Gary Woolfork. With them, and all of you, she leaves behind a precious gift. A powerful legacy of resilience, perseverance and the freedom to stand and fight fervently for what you believe in.
In honor of Margaritas precious memory and everlasting legacy, we are holding a Celebration of Life Service for her at the Porter Loring Mortuary location in downtown San Antonio. We invite anyone who knew and loved Margarita to join us in rejoicing the heavenly restoration of her health and vibrance made possible only by the Grace and Mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We ask that guests arrive wearing bright colors to commemorate the joy and freedom our mother is most certainly relishing now that she has earned her angel wings. Honorary Pallbearers are Deveon Guerrero, Larry Guerrero, Gian Carlo Ornelas, Tony Woods Jr., Gary Woolfork, Cindy Hefner and Alex Del Rio.
