A native of San Antonio, she graduated from Brackenridge High School, where she excelled in sports. She was a supervisor for American Hospital and Life for many years. Appropriate to her interest in sports, she met the love of her life, Fred Lewis, at a football game and they celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to his death February 14, 2000. Marguerite was also an avid SPURS fan.
Her dedication to St. John's Lutheran Church is well known. She along with her husband sang in the choir, both served in many capacities and she continued volunteering in the church office, keeping attendance records, assisting with mailings, etc., until 1997 when health issues curtailed her activity.
She is survived by her brother, Harold Hildebrandt; sister, Mrs. Lucille Herndon; cousins, Bobby Franke, Mrs. Sharon Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Donna Hoss, and Jack Franke. Although Marguerite and Fred had no children of their own, they considered Adam, Adrian and Andre Hernandez their grandchildren, watching them grow into adulthood.
The family is especially grateful to Dr. Mauro Ortiz, Dr. Christina Carreno-Simpson, and Dr. Robert Spalten, the nursing and medical staff at Morningside Manor and to Grace Laubert, who attended not only to her medical needs but also to her love of beauty.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring.
