Maria Elena Duarte

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Pedro and Guadalupe Medrano, spouse Jose Duarte and her siblings, Ramona, Pedro, Jr., Esperanza, Gilberto, Aurora, Isabel and Iginio. Daughter in law Elida Barbosa.

She worked at El Colonial Tortilla on San Antonio's westside for over 40 years where she made the tamales by hand. She enjoyed tending to her plants, spending time with her family, playing loteria with family and friends, holiday get togethers, trips to the beach, going to the casino and making tamales at Christmas.

She is survived by her sons Jesus Barbosa, Roger Faz (Laurie), Jose Barrera (Cynthia) and daughter Maria Salazar (Edward). Her sister Juanita Rodriguez and sister in law Alicia Medrano. Maria had 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is also grateful for the support of La Differencia Hospice for their compassionate care. Thank you Elizabeth RN, Father Mark, Rosa CNA and Henry social worker. Maria was loved and will be missed by her family, friends and neighbors at Christian Village.
