Maria Lydia Gonzalez, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her daughter Diana, son-in-law John and granddaughter Elisa. Born on October 9, 1939, in Portland, Texas to parents, Juan R. and Maria Silvas.
Rey and Lydia married on January 4th, 1959, and were married for 60 years until the passing of her only true love Rey in 2019 and no other.
Lydia, beautiful inside and out, lived a long and blessed life. A faithful wife and loving mother and grandmother, beloved by many.
Lydia was fun, loving and spontaneous. She loved to laugh and liked silliness, dancing, cooking, sewing, shopping, traveling, nature and cuteness but mostly her family.
Her talents also shined in fragrance sales, she was a top seller for Dillard’s department stores for 13 straight years, where she was admired for her dedication, style, and genuine care for customers.
Lydia along with her husband, Rey were proud owners of three Mexican food restaurants and a six chair barber shop in Huntington Beach Ca and later in life a one-man barber shop in Bulverde Tx. These businesses became gathering places in the community and reflected their strong work ethic and welcoming spirit.
She was known for her beauty and class and hospitality. She loved Jesus and studied His Word many times. She prayed for her family daily and for many years, on her knee’s bedside.
She saved every card, gift, letter and momentos from all her children marking every special occasion and she cherished them.
Lydia loved life, family and lived healthy and happy up until her very last years. She passed quickly and peacefully in her short rapid decline that lasted 6 weeks
She will be very missed by her daughter and many others. We look forward to our reunion in heaven someday.
Rey and Lydia had 4 children, Anthony Rey Gonzalez, Lucinda Gonzalez, Lou Wilkins, and Diana Gonzalez.
