Our loving mother, Maria Olga Martinez “Olga” has gone to join her Lord on her next journey. She took her next steps on Sunday February 26, 2023. She was surrounded by her family and enjoyed her life up until the very end. Olga will be greatly missed by all who knew her and are part of her legacy.
Olga was born on October 19, 1950, to Maria De Jesus Tamayo and Otilio Tamayo who have proceeded her in death. She is survived by her siblings: Rosa Ellia Tamayo, Ana Bertha Marshall, and Jesse Joel Tamayo (spouse Mary). Her daughters and their families: Patricia Martinez (spouse Shawn Clark-Martinez); Elizabeth Marie Maynes (spouse Christian); Jessica Louise Calhoun (spouse Devon) Grandchildren: Eathan Robert Maynes, Madelyn Aija Maynes, Ricardo Christian Maynes; Alexis Jacell Nichols(spouse Dexter), Brianna Elise Houghtling(fiancé Brianna Garza), Edward Scott Houghtling, Dylan Reilly Calhoun, Danica Rhys Calhoun, and Dayani Rasheen Calhoun.
Olga graduated from Lanier High School and joined the workforce for a short stint. She really did not enjoy the typical work life; she wanted to start on her dreams of marrying and raising a family. She married Edward Martinez and joined the life of the military wife’s world. Olga travelled the U.S. and a bit of Europe but not in a happy vacation lifestyle. She was the all-around mom who raised the children and their friends because her house was the home that welcomed all. Snacks, games, fun, and Mom to take care of you if you needed it. The memories from her daughters’ adventures growing up made her proud and on occasion a little upset, but she always loved us and was there for our stumbles.
Her dream of having children and raising a family was just the start of her wants and needs. Olga would provide childcare service for many other children as we moved around and even up until we came back to San Antonio for good. She treated each of those children as if they were her own. Never were we jealous because she would say “I watch them for a little bit and will always be here with you girls.” “Ms. Olga, I hope your love and care continues to mold and support all those you came in contact with. Even in your passing I hear your mom is still teaching me things.” “I know she is gone, but her love and lessons I feel every time I learn something.”
