Maria Campos Sotelo

On Thursday January 2, 2025 our beloved mom; mother in law; grandma; Tia; friend went to her eternal rest. She was the heart of our family and everyone knew they were at home when they would visit her. Maria loved making tamales and cooking. She played softball and loved to watch her youngest son Anthony play baseball. Maria was a nurses aid at St Anthony de Padua, worked at Mexican Manhattan and at Howard Elementary. She loved to hear music and she would do her gritos; loved her "apple juice" and she especially loved family gatherings; going on road trips to San Juan and to Rockport, TX on vacations.

Maria C. Sotelo was born on May 4, 1934 to Atanacio Campos and Eduvegen Ortiz Campos in New Braunfels, TX. She married the love of her life Ramiro L. Sotelo on December 31, 1951 in Marion, TX and from there they created a lifetime of family memories.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Ramiro L. Sotelo; parents Atanacio and Eduvegen Ortiz Campos; brothers Victor, Agapito, and Alejandro Campos and sisters Felicitas Munoz and Gabriella Rosales; stepdaughter Lilly Pulido and son in law Richard Villarreal.

She is survived by her six children Joe Sotelo; Evelyn (Oscar) Trejo; Gloria (Richard) Villarreal ; Ramiro (Rosa) Sotelo, Jr.; Johnny (Katherine) Sotelo; and Anthony (Lori) Sotelo. She leaves behind 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 45 great-great grandchildren.

Maria lived a wonderful life of a caring, loving and doting mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She was the matriarch of our family and she will be greatly missed by us all.

We would like to give a special thank you to Leticia (Letty) Pena for being Maria's caregiver for the last 14 years and to Advance Hospice for their services.

Maria Campos Sotelo, age 90, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

A Visitation for Maria will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.

A Rosary be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 7:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.

A Funeral Service will occur Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209.

A Graveside Service will occur Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209.
