Maria “Clara” Varela age 87 of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2021. She was surrounded by her loved ones, husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her Husband of 62 years Abelardo M. Varela, and preceded in death by her eldest son, Ernest Riojas. Her children Irene Mata, Betty Herrera, Jesse Varela, Cynthia Ann Ramon, son-in-law Ruben Ramon, and Andrew Varela. Grandchildren: include Carrie Ann Ramirez, Robert Ramirez, Elizabeth Rose Spurlock, William Spurlock, Victoria Marisa Clay, Sean Clay, Lisa Lopez, Joe Lopez, Ernest Riojas Jr., Valeria Riojas, Marcos Riojas Hernandez, Christopher Isaac Herrera, Carol Herrera, Jesse De La Cruz, Erin De La Cruz, Jenise Amber Varela, Reuben Michael Ramon, Matthew Ryan Ramon, Julia Varela. Great grandchildren include Robert Ramirez Jr., Analiah Rose Ramirez, Brandon Angel Lopez, Lauren Ashley Lopez, Julia Summer Lopez, Leia Faith Lopez, Heaven Gabrielle Lopez, Katelyn Riojas, Lorraine Riojas, Marcos Daniel Hernandez, Markangel Valentino Hernandez, Sarina Mariah Hernandez, Christian Isaiah Herrera, Abigale Amorie Herrera, Leilonni Torres, Justin Avila, Amorie Kaitlyn Herrera, Elijah Kobe Herrera, Jayla Aubrie Varela; Great-great grandchildren include Adalaya Jade Soto, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary worked as a cosmetologist for more than 30 years, and was a dedicated parish member of Corner Stone Church. Her interests included sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, baking, and gardening. She was a very social person and enjoyed going to the gym and visiting friends.
A viewing will be held at Trevino Funeral Home 226 Cupples Rd., San Antonio TX. 78237 on February 23 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. The burial will take place at San Fernando Cemetery #2 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237 at 10:00 a.m.
Due to Covid 19 restrictions, the funeral home chapel will only allow 25 guests.
Facial coverings are required at all times while in the building.
San Fernando Cemetery II will only allow 10 guests under the tent site including pallbearers and clergy.
All other guests are required to social distance outside the tent site.
