

Marietta McCain passed away on June 10, 2024 at the age of 86. She will be remembered as a strong woman of courage, integrity and unwavering faith. She was a loyal spouse, amazing mother, proud Mimi, entrepreneur, and tireless supporter of family and friends.
She was one of 2 children born to Jim C. and Otilia Stavinoha in High Hill, Texas. After moving to San Antonio with her parents, Marietta attended Providence High School. Through her brother Marcus, she met and married Don McCain in 1958 and had 2 daughters, Donna and Niki.
Marietta began her Insurance Career at John M. Coleman Insurance Agency. After Mr. Coleman passed away, she and Walter Dunlap started the Dunlap Insurance Agency where she served as Vice President for 17 years. Marietta and George Luhn left the Dunlap Agency to establish the Luhn-McCain Insurance Agency in 1980, where she served as President and majority owner for over 30 years.
Marietta served on the CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) Board of Governors from 1993-1999 and was the first female to serve as Chair. She served on the National Alliance Curriculum Advisory Committee and taught at the School for Producer Development.
Marietta was a pioneer for women in the Insurance industry. She served on the board and became President of the Insurance Women of San Antonio in 1972 and the Independent Insurance Agents of San Antonio in 1980. Marietta became the only woman President of Independent Insurance Agents of Texas in 1989. During her insurance career, she earned several prestigious awards for her contribution and service to the community.
Both of her daughters joined Luhn-McCain in the 1980’s, Niki in operations and Donna in sales. In 2009, a third generation of family was added to the agency when Niki’s daughter Kim became a sales agent.
Marietta enjoyed playing golf and helped form the Executive Women’s Golf Association in San Antonio and served on the board for many years.
She was a champion for non-profits and helped them achieve their mission by safeguarding their assets and saving money on their insurance programs. Building strong relationships and supporting the clients she served was important to her. Marietta served on many Non-Profit boards including The Children’s Shelter, Mission Road Developmental Center and Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children to name a few.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Marietta's intelligence, friendly nature, contagious smile and communication skills were trademarks endearing her to everyone she met. She lived each day to the fullest and lived a life filled with cheerfulness and positivity. In doing so, she left us all with valuable lessons on handling challenges and examples of how to take the high road. When you remember Marietta, let it be filled with the many happy memories you had with her. Find comfort in knowing that she is in heaven with Jesus and we will join her there one day.
Marietta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don McCain, brother Marcus Stavinoha, and her parents.
Marietta will be forever lovingly remembered by her daughters Donna Milnor, Niki Guenther (Rick), granddaughters; Elizabeth Terry (John), Kim Cahoon, grandson; Kody Milnor, great-grandchildren; Brynn, Maya and Jackson, nephews Mark & Doug Stavinoha and many dear friends and business associates.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Juan Ramirez Castaneda, Dr. Tracy Board, Caring Solutions, Carol Rutherford and Pam Bryant for their loving and compassionate care for Marietta during her final years.
Marietta’s kindness and generosity led her to donate her brain to UT Health Neurological Research so others with Parkinson’s and dementia may benefit from her noble gift. Her family takes great pride knowing her permanent legacy will be one of education, instruction and assistance to other families in need.
