

Marilyn was an accredited member and the immediate past president of the San Antonio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America PRSA. She was also the professional advisor to the Student Chapter of PRSA at the University of Texas at San Antonio UTSA.
She was a public relations and marketing specialist for the Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio.
Marilyn was born in El Dorado, Kan., the daughter of Donald and Betty Chalmers Ruggles. She was educated in Augusta, Kan. schools and graduated from The Wichita State University. After graduation she taught high school for a year in Wichita, Kan, then worked for the Wichita Chamber of Commerce and in the Wichita office of U.S. Rep. Garner Shriver.
She was subsequently employed in public relations positions for a number of non-profit organizations in the Wichita area, including the Institute for Logopedics now Heartspring School, the Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped, and the Wichita Chapter of Catholic Charities. She also served for a time as public relations director of Associated Advertising in Wichita.
Marilyn came to San Antonio in 1997 and worked as a public relations specialist for University Hospital before joining the Methodist Healthcare System in 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Potts, director of Corporate Communications at M7 Aerospace of San Antonio; her daughter, Kimberly Garrett, of Overland Park, Kan; her parents; three brothers, Larry, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Paul, of Bellingham, Wash; and Chris, of Augusta, Kan., a sister, Bonnie, of Augusta, Kan., and three grandchildren, Jordan, Katie and Jack Garrett, all of Overland Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heartspring School or to the Isle of Springs Association, Isle of Springs, Maine.
