

Mark Christopher White, age 69, died peacefully on March 5, 2023 in his home in San Antonio where he lived with his sister, Barbara White. He had a neurodegenerative disease called Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) for several years.
Mark was born in Paterson, NJ on October 29, 1953 and was raised in Williamsport, PA moving to Beaumont, Texas at 12 years old. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara Bachmann and Lewis John White of New Rochelle, NY and his sister, Nancy White Merola who passed away in 2019.He is survived by his brothers: Peter Lewis and Paul Matthew (Patricia), his sisters: Lisa White Morgan (James) and Barbara Claire White, his niece and goddaughter, Elizabeth Mei White, and his dearest friend Nita “Benita” Robichau. Mark also belonged to an extended family with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He graduated from Monsignor Kelly High School in Beaumont in 1971. He received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Edwards University in 1975. He then worked at Meridell Achievement Center as a child care worker and a case supervisor. He earned a Master of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Mark worked at the Balcones CO-OP as a therapist and conducted group, individual, and family therapy. He moved into private practice in 1988 and worked his entire professional career in Austin, Texas as a psychotherapist. He practiced for more than 30 years treating adolescents specializing in group therapy with middle and high school boys as well as conducting a group for parents of seniors called, “Holding on and Letting Go”. He retired in 2019 and moved to San Antonio to be near his family.Mark was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin and most recently of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Antonio. He and five friends co-founded Mobile Loaves and Fishes (MLF) in 1999, a non-profit organization feeding the homeless with compassion, dignity and respect. MLF grew to 5 catering trucks in Austin and additionally it was active in several states. MLF transformed into Community First in Austin. At St. Mark the Evangelist Church in San Antonio under the direction of Msgr. Kevin Ryan, MLF reincorporated into Traveling Loaves and Fishes helping with the formation of Twin Townes, a new tiny home village for the homeless.
Mark was widely known for his philanthropy and for acts of goodness and kindness. He was born to be a Social Worker and lived his life as a humble, charitable person. His good works are innumerable. He was ordained in Rome, Italy in 2003 as a Lay Minister in Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity .Mark was athletic and loved running, basketball, and fishing. He ran and finished 3 marathons including the Boston Marathon. He enjoyed playing on many amateur teams with his friends in Austin.Pallbearers are: Mark Ammerman, Hunter Nelson, Robert Openshaw, Robbie Price, Neil O’Toole and Larry Smithers.
Mark’s family is profoundly grateful to his sister, Barbara. She nurtured Mark through the last years of life and raised his quality of life to the very end.
The family also wishes to thank Dr. Aaron King and Compassus Care Hospice staff who exemplified kindness and compassionate care to both Mark and his family.
Visitation is on Sunday, March 12th beginning at 6:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
