It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Martha Matthews (Kalinoski), age 80, of San Antonio, TX, who passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025. She was a loving mother, adored grandmother, auntie, and best friend. She graduated Providence High School in San Antonio and went on to earn a degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. She met her late husband, Alton Matthews, in San Antonio, where they were married in 1975. She was an elementary school teacher before a long career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she retired.
Martha’s life was a testament to unwavering love and selflessness—her family was always her greatest priority, and every choice she made reflected that. She was beloved by her daughter, Amy Matthews (42), and granddaughter Ally (13) for her selflessness, kind soul, honesty, and love of animals. Her faith in God never wavered, and she enjoyed sharing her love of the Catholic faith with Ally. She is survived by her daughter, granddaughter, sister-in-law, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister, and husband.
A visitation and rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at 5 pm at Porter Loring North in San Antonio, TX. Funeral services will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, TX, on Thursday, July 24th at 11 am. Burial services will follow at 1 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the San Antonio Humane Society, North Texas Humane Society, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
