Born October 20, 1943, MaryJane grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Fred Albert Bell III. The two first met in the second grade and later became high school sweethearts, beginning a love story that would endure for more than six decades. Married for 60 years, MaryJane and Fred built a life grounded in unwavering devotion, partnership, and deep love for their family.
Mary Jane lived life with remarkable strength, grace, and determination. An avid tennis player for many years, she relished the camaraderie, competition, and joy the game brought her. She also built a successful career in real estate, where she took great pride in helping families find places to call home. Known for her warmth, integrity, and natural ability to connect with people, she guided countless clients through important moments in their lives.
Mary Jane and Fred never lost their affection for the place where their story began. Their shared roots in Portsmouth fostered a lifelong love of the water, the beach, and the simple happiness of time spent near the coast.
Above all else, MaryJane's greatest joy was her family. She was the devoted wife and soulmate to her husband, Fred, a loving mother to her three sons, Scott, Josh, and Ryan, and a beloved mother-in-law to Christe, Kristen, and Nina. She was also the proud grandmother "Mimi" to her fourteen grandchildren: Evelyn, Owen, Brody, Ethan, Charlotte, Britt, Nate, Blake, Jackson, Owen, Ella, Halle, Carson, and Andrew. Each held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment watching them grow.
MaryJane will be remembered for her quiet strength, her competitive spirit, her kindness, and the steadfast love she showed her husband and family. Those who knew her understood that she possessed a resilience and toughness that carried her through life and inspired everyone around her.
Her family will forever be grateful for the love she gave so freely and the example she set for all who were fortunate enough to know her.
