

Daughter of the late Theresa Humble and Joseph Rene' Melancon, she was descended from families who were among the earliest sugar cane planters along the Mississippi River in St. James Parish.
After graduating from Southwestern Louisiana University, she received the Master of Social Work degree from Tulane University, later becoming a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
For more than five decades she served a number of social agencies professionally or as a volunteer. For more than a decade she served as Director of Social Services at the Santa Rosa Medical Center.
Since 1954, until recent years, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She also participated as a founding board member of the Monte Vista Historical Association. She was formerly listed in Who's Who Among American Women.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Edward Everett whom she married in 1949.
She is survived by her son, John Lauchlin Everett and wife, Janet of San Antonio and their daughters: Julie Lundy and husband, Travis and sons Mason and Jacob of Longview, Texas; Lisa Scrimpsher and husband, Jason and son Nolan of Austin, Texas and Pamela Curtright of Kansas City, Kansas; her daughter, Mary Everett Potter and husband, Robert, and their daughters, Page and Christina, all of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister, Verita Stansfield and husband, Frank of Dickinson, Texas and brother Joseph Rene' Melanson, Jr. and wife, Dottie of Houston, Texas. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Paul H. Smith Jr., for the warmth of his professional attention. Caregivers Monica Alexis and Maria Gonzalez from A Plus Comfort Care for their love and gentle touches. The staff and management at Emeritus at Lincoln Heights formerly Brighton Gardens for their kindness and service for the last five years and the staff of VistaCare Hospice.
Mrs. Everett's remains will be inurned in the Columbarium of the First Presbyterian Church.
