

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Ellen Georgoulakis, a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and friend, who passed away on March 2nd, 2025.
Born on June 30, 1948, in Mobile, Alabama, Mary Ellen had a lifelong passion for learning and a gift for teaching. After earning her degree in education from the University of Alabama in 1970, she embarked on a remarkable career as an elementary school teacher that spanned over 40 years. Known lovingly as “Mrs. G.,” she taught in Alabama, Alaska, Kentucky, Kansas, Germany, and Texas, enriching the lives of hundreds of children. Her impact in the classroom extended far beyond textbooks—she inspired young minds, nurtured confidence, and instilled a love of learning in generations of students.
Mary Ellen was also a free spirit and a military spouse who embraced adventure. Her journeys took her across the country and overseas. Dressed in her signature fiesta dresses, she brought joy and love wherever she went.
Above all, she was a devoted mother, the kind of woman who always put her children first. She was a constant source of love, guidance, and strength, always ready with words of encouragement. Her family was her greatest joy, and she embraced her role as a mother and grandmother with boundless love and devotion.
Mary Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Helen Papageorge, and her brother, Pete. She is survived by her children, Steve and Maria; her daughter-in-law, Stephanie; and her beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Chace, Kalli, Zayden,and Jade.
Her legacy of kindness, adventure, and love will continue to shine through those who were lucky enough to know her.
