Evelyn graduated from Bastrop High School where she was voted best all-around girl, participated in the Drum and Bugle Corp, was a drum major, and played on the girls’ softball team. She completed one year at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas, and then started her career as a medical technologist. Evelyn met Jim Lamb at a college dance, they dated, and they married September 5, 1949. Evelyn was a loving, engaging, and supportive mother to her four children as a stay at home mom. In 1962 she taught one year at St. Benedict’s Catholic School and then she entered a career as Medical Technologist and Laboratory Supervisor in the hospital laboratory environment for many years.
Evelyn was devout in her faith and participated in many events and ministries for St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. In the early years Evelyn was a Cub Scout leader, an Eagle Scout leader, and a Brownie Troop leader with her children. Her hobbies included tennis, softball, ballroom dancing with Jim, arts and crafts, traveling to visit relatives, sewing, swimming, and spending quality time with family and friends. Her favorite time of year was summer because she loved the beach and waited with anticipation to spend that wonderful time with family making memories that will be forever treasured by her children and grandchildren. Evelyn loved sitting on a beach house patio surrounded by her loved ones, drinking coffee in the mornings or a glass of wine in the evening while sharing stories, laughter, and love.
Evelyn was an encourager and she saw the good in all people. She endured life’s challenges by taking the things that came at her in life while never wavering in her faith. Her smile and kindness and her sweet sense of humor will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Clayton Lamb; her sons James Michael Lamb, daughter-in-law Renee Jenrette Lamb, and John Patrick Lamb; as well as her parents Johnie Hoffman and Bertha Osborn Hoffman. She is survived by her loving daughters Kathleen Cain and husband Rusty Cain; Karen Walton and her fiancé Clay Bostick; her grandchildren Cody Miklis, Christopher Walton, and Lindsey Walton, and numerous extended family members.
