Mary Olivia McIntosh

Mary Olivia McIntosh, a cherished artist and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, in New Braunfels, Texas. Born on March 20, 1943, in south central Texas, Mary was the beloved daughter of Kenneth Paul and Dortha McCracken. She is survived by her son, Brian Swanson; her sister, Stephanie Kay Coley, and husband Herb; and her grandchildren, Cassidy and Dakota Swanson.

Mary's passion for art led her to North Texas University, where she majored in art, and later to the prestigious Art Center College of Design in California, where she earned a Bachelor of Professional Arts in Advertising Design. Her career began as an art director at Leo Burnett Advertising Agency in Chicago, but her true calling was in the film industry. Mary returned to California to work as a union Set Decorator for film and television, a career she excelled in for 39 years until her retirement in 2004.

Upon retiring, Mary returned to Texas to fulfill her dream of becoming a professional artist. She established a bed and breakfast and built an art studio where she taught classes in pastel and pencil. Her artwork, recognized with numerous awards, reflected her extensive travels, including photo safaris in Africa and workshops with renowned artists.

Mary was a loving and devoted wife to Walter Zettner and was deeply involved in her community, dedicating her time to various causes and her love for animals. Her memory will live on through her art and the many lives she touched. Mary Olivia McIntosh will be remembered for her artistic contributions and her unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Services for Mary will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home in San Antonio. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with services from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., followed by final words in the cemetery pavilion for family and friends.
