Mary Fern Orem, age 84, of San Antonio, born in Lubbock, TX died Tuesday, August 29, 2006.
She completed Patty Welder High School in Victoria, then earned an Associates degree from Victoria Jr. College. She graduated from UT with a Bachelors degree in 1942, where she was a charter member of Alpha Omicron Pi.
She taught at Patty Welder High School for 2 years. She moved to San Francisco until 1946. Then she returned to San Antonio where she taught 5 years at Alamo Heights.
Later she attended San Antonio College for 2 years and she remained there to teach for 5 years. During that time she earned a masters from Trinity University. She completed her professional career as a counselor at Holmes High School, retiring in 1980.
She married in 1948, had a son and daughter. After retiring she was active in her church and enjoyed being a grandmother to 5 boys.
Survivors; husband, Harry Bosworth Orem; son, Timothy James Orem and wife, Janice; daughter, Kathryn Orem Neill and husband, John; grandsons, Christopher and Benjamin Orem, Mathew, Cooper and Brady Neill.
