Mary "Maureen" Elizabeth Sayers

Mary Elizabeth Sayers, born June 2, 1931, in Ballyclare, Ireland passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 92. She spent her early years in her birthplace until making her journey across the Atlantic to the United States in 1955, to be with her sister and brother-in-law.

Mary was known by all as “Maureen.” Those that knew Maureen will remember her most for her Irish accent, her love for drinking hot tea, and the overall love for her family, which was her greatest pride and joy.

She spent the remainder of her life being the centerpiece of her family that she was able to watch grow over the years. She was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, who left us with countless stories of her life in Ireland, her life as a military spouse, raising her four sons, her love for gardening and giving each of us advice on healthy eating and living. She will be dearly missed and never be forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her parents Neil Kelly & Katherine McIlgorm Kelly, her husband of 57 years Billy “Bill” Joe Sayers who was a retired military veteran, educator, coach, and her sister Anne Kelly Pantusa, her brother-in-law Silvio Pantusa, sister Rosin Kelly Coughlin, and brother James Kelly.

She is survived by her children James D. Sayers & wife Elaine Sayers, William J. Sayers, Kevin M. Sayers & wife Angelina (Dina) Sayers, and Robert E. Sayers. Grandchildren, Eric M. Sayers & fiancé Erica Adams, Kyle M. Sayers & wife Lesley L. Sayers and great-grandchildren, Tatum C. Sayers & Layne M. Sayers. She is also survived by nieces Nancy Pantusa and Maureen Pantusa, her brother-in-law David Sayers & wife Patty Sayers.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North at 1604 and Gold Canyon Road. Graveside services and interment will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 11:30 a.m.
