Mary Frances Toms went to be with Jesus on August 10, 2025. Franny was born on July 24, 1935 in Concord, North Carolina as a true Southern girl. She was married to her loving husband Ronald Lane Toms for 43 years before his passing in 2021. She leaves behind a big family who loved and adored her including her baby brother, Wayne Heffner, 6 children, Scott (Cindy) Glenn, Shawn (Etoy) Glenn, Lyndi (Tommy) Achilles, Misti (Patrick) Panzarella, Melani (Kurt) Rechner, and Ronald Toms Jr., 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Franny was raised in North Carolina, with her big sister and younger brother. She married young, moved around the country as an Air Force wife, and eventually journeyed with her 5 kids to San Antonio, Texas. It was there that she planted roots, and where she and Ron Toms (Pop) owned and operated three nursing facilities in Blanco County caring for the elderly for over 45 years. In 1999, Franny and Ron purchased Two Bow Ranch, where the entire family could gather and spend time together. Led by Pop and Franny, the entire family spent summers, holidays, and many weeks and weekends at the ranch laughing and growing as a family unit. This would not have been possible without the generosity and love stewarded by Franny and Pop.
Franny was a force to be reckoned with and her fervor for Jesus, life, and family was positively contagious. She was fiery, competitive, hilarious, extraordinarily generous, and full of love. She loved her people unconditionally, and we loved her for all that she was. With curled hair, lipstick, and blue eyeliner (despite her plans for the day), she was putting on her favorite high heels and dancing to, “At Last”, by Etta James or some Jimmy Swaggart in the kitchen. It was also common to find a plethora of caramels, bubble gum, cheesecake, cokes, candy, strawberry ice cream, and butter in her kitchen. She was the fierce leader of a big family that typically found themselves at the ranch every chance possible. Her love was the stuff of legends, and the life her little body held was wilder and grander than one could think possible. Her later days were spent playing cards with her children (winning at spades or poker) and teaching her grandkids to do the same. You could find her shooting hoops right outside her house, swimming in her pool, going for hikes around her land, winning wrestling matches with her kids and grandkids, and recently great grandkids, or starting a water fight with the next person to walk in the house. Mary Frances was always telling a story worth everyone's ear, or doing something outrageous to get a laugh. Just watching her was like a front row seat to the best movie! Franny was not one to sugarcoat anything, and if you needed a life lesson she was ready to freely give the wisdom God grew in her over her years of walking with Him. She was truly a golden girl, and there simply aren’t enough words in the world to encompass or fully describe Mary Frances Toms and the light she left. She was strong, wild, faithful, and free until her very last breath. She was surrounded by her loved ones until the Peace of Jesus took her home.
Franny’s service will be held on August 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Chandelier of Gruene 1924
Bretzke Lane New Braunfels, TX 78132.
