Mary Louise Wagener

Mary was born on April 21, 1934, in York, Nebraska to William Francis McCormick and Mary Wallingford McCormick. Mary was the 4th of 6 children. She attended the University of Nebraska from 1952 to 1956 and received her teaching degree. She also met her husband, Carl Wagener, at the University of Nebraska and they were married shortly after graduation.

In 1958, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where Carl was stationed at Kelly AFB. After Carl's discharge, being that they loved San Antonio, they decided to make their home here. Mary was mother to 4 children, Mark C. Wagener, Karen K. Wagener, Michael (Mike) S. Wagener and Molly H. Wagener. Mary was a kind and compassionate person who loved children, especially those with special education needs. She continued her teaching career at Theodore Roosevelt High School in which she taught Special Needs children until her retirement. Being a devout Catholic, Mary recited the Rosary every day and lived out her faith accordingly. She was also an avid reader, an incredible cook, an animal lover, and a person who enjoyed life and being together with her family. Mary always made sure that Holidays were special and enjoyed having the entire family together for special holiday meals and gatherings.

Mary is preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Molly H. Wagener. She is survived by her adoring husband of 65 years, Carl, and her remaining children, Mark, Karen and Mike. Additionally, Mary was a beloved Grandmother to Hillary Wagener Abbate and Michael J. Wagener and very proud Great Grandmother to her two Great Granddaughters, Olivia Jean Abbate and Sophia Louise Abbate.

Mary will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. Her sense of humor, gentle touch and genuine compassion for other's will be just a few of the things we miss, however, her legacy of love will live on and flourish in all of us.
