She was born October 9, 1923, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Irvin and Exa Heath. Mary Elizabeth attended L.S.U., and graduated from the University of Arkansas where she met her future husband, Louie. She was supportive to him throughout his military career. She was a Mary Kay beauty consultant, member of Phi Mu Sorority, member of DAR, member of First Church of Christ, Scientist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie W. Walter.
Mary Elizabeth is survived by her son, William "Bill" Walter and daughter, Karen Louise DePaul.
