

Jose Santos Tello, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. Master Sergeant Tello took great pride in his military career. He completed basic training in 1956 at Fort Ord, California and began serving a tour in Germany. In 1987, as Sergeant First Class, he received a Certificate of Merit in gratitude for heroic generosity to the church in Texas before, during and after the historic visit of Pope John Paul II. He retired in 1993 as a Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge and Aviation Supervisor Maintenance. Master Sergeant Tello honorably served 38 years with the Department of the Army and the Air Force National Guard Bureau, which included 36 years of service in the Texas Army National Guard at Martindale Army Airfield. His decorations include a Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal, the singularly distinctive accomplishments of Master Sergeant Tello culminate a long distinguished career in the service of his country and reflective of the highest credit upon himself and the Texas Army National Guard and many other commendations and citations awarded during his over three decades of selfless service to his country.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene of 50 years, mother Maria De Jesus Garcia, father Canuto Tello and sister Louise Tello Paiz. Survivors include daughters Ruby (Ken) Steponaitis of Allen, TX, Soila (David) Reando of Austin, AR; Grandchildren, Bianca (Josh) Schutte of Ward, AR, Janell Reandoof Leander, TX, Calvin and Ezekiel; Great grandchildren, Liam and Amelia; sisters Olga Rubio (Burt), Rosie Tello Lopez (David), Linda Tello Atkinson (Albert), Rachel Tello Sanchez (Johnny), Angie Tello Ramirez (Louis), Frances Tello Vasquez, Mary Helen Tello; brothers Miguel (Mike) Tello, Gilbert Tello (Rosie), David Tello (Rosalba), Johnny Tello, Richard Tello (Judy) and sister-in-laws Olivia Lopez and Elida Rocha; numerous nieces and nephews, along with numerous family members and dear veteran friends.
